Education

Oxbow is now feeding minds as well as bodies! We are dedicated to teaching children and adults about the values of organic farming and how it contributes to healthy lives. In September of 2010, we are starting our field trip season for pre-school and kindergarten school groups.

  • Exploring the children's garden
  • Pumpkin patch prowling in October
  • Creepy crawly insect observation
  • Harvesting colorful food from the farm
  • Seed saving and snacking
  • Fun and games in our living playground!

Cost of tour
The tour cost is $125 for a maximum of 25 children. (If the fee is a hardship, please talk to us about scholarships.) We require there be at least one adult for every 5 children. Adults should expect to help harvest with the children!

Days and times
Tours are offered Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday in September and October. Tours last 1 1/2 hours: on Monday and Thursday morning from 10-11:30 and on Wednesday morning from 10-11:30 and afternoon from 1-2:30. To make a reservation, please email sarah@oxbow.org.

What to expect

  • Just like life on the farm, tours take place RAIN & SHINE! Come prepared for any weather and expect to get dirty. We recommend mud boots, rain coat, and hat. In the case of a heavy downpour we do have shelter in our greenhouse where we can continue our adventure.
  • Please remember that you will be visiting a working farm, if you have severe alergies to grass, hay or bees please come prepared.
  • Parking on the farm - We have a grass lot just inside the entrance to the farm that will keep your car safe from our farm equipment. From the lot you will follow a lovely path past our fields, through the orchard to the heart of the farm where the classes are held.
  • You can also expect your kids to take a greater interest in vegetables!

Lunch and snacks
You may stay and eat your lunch or snack after your tour.

Please be on time!
If you arrive late we will have to shorten your tour to keep our schedule. Please plan on arriving five to ten minutes early. You can always spend the extra time taking in the views of the farm and the oxbow lake Jack-O that has been restored to a natural wetland.

To register
Email sarah@oxbow.org to schedule your tour and please include your first and second prefered dates and times. We will get back to you as soon as we can.

October Open Farm Weekends and Pumpkin Patch!

The pumpkin patch will be open Saturdays and Sundays in October from 10-4. This will be great fun for the whole family! Harvest your own jack-o-lantern, a pie pumpkin and some decorative gourds.

The Oxbow farm stand will be open selling our delicious organic produce.
