Expert Tour #6: Season Extension Tour
October 13, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Description
You might think of the height of summer’s bounty when you think about the farming season, but farms look to expand their growing season into the spring and winter in order to be more economically viable.
Join our farmers for a tour of the season extension techniques used at Oxbow to grow crops early in the spring and late into the cold of winter. See how the season is extended in greenhouses, in the field, and by using cold storage to ensure keep vegetables fresh and delicious into January and February. This tour will also explore the art of growing heat-loving crops in the Pacific Northwest, and how Oxbow uses the technique of “protected cultivation” successfully.
This tour is led by members of our farm team.
