NPN Workshop #3: Seed Cleaning & Storage + Propagation

August 4, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Description

For our final Native Plant Workshop, you get two fascinating topics in one!

Seed cleaning and storage

Learn simple techniques to clean, dry and store your seed so that it will stay viable until you are ready to sow it. The workshop will consist of part lecture/demonstration and part hands-on experience. Students will take home a handout with class notes and some cleaned seed of their own!

Propagation

You’ve collected, cleaned, and stored your seed: Now what? Growing natives from seed provides experiences that range from extremely easy to extremely challenging. Begin your journey as a native plant propagator at the Oxbow Native Plant Nursery, where you’ll learn about seed dormancies and how to break them, easy methods to treat and sow seeds, and resources to use as you learn more.

Students will take home handouts with class notes, cleaned seed, and some seed starts! Bring a notebook.

This workshop is led by our Native Plant Nursery Manager, Bridget McNassar.
