Oxbow encourages those interested in becoming a part of our farm community to volunteer with us! We have a number of opportunities to get involved with the farmers and learn about the work we do here.

Kids’ Farm Volunteer Naturalist
Oxbow hosts thousands of kids on educational field trips throughout the year. Primarily pre-school and elementary-aged students visit the farm for 75-minute hands-on farm tours facilitated by farmer and volunteer instructors. Kids learn about seeds, soil, compost, worms, and other basics of organic farming.
Volunteer naturalists lead educational tours with 8-12 kids around our 1-acre Kids’ Farm in spring, summer, and fall. When no tours are scheduled, volunteers assist the education team in a variety of farming tasks around the Kids’ Farm. Only an interest in food and farms is necessary.
Volunteering as a Kids’ Farm Naturalist is an opportunity to grow your skills as an educator and to learn about organic agriculture. We provide volunteers with extensive training in our unique educational philosophy.
We recruit for these positions on a rolling basis. Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Restoration Work Parties
The farm hosts occasional volunteer work parties with Oxbow Education and the Native Plant Nursery. These parties are outdoors, and real, physical work. You can read about some of the great work our volunteers have been doing on our Native Hedgerow Project.
Volunteer dates will be announced throughout the year. Follow our Facebook Page for last-minute volunteer announcements and opportunities!
Kids’ Farm Volunteer
Oxbow is seeking volunteers to help with the management and upkeep of our 1-acre Kids’ Farm and Living Playground. The Kids’ Farm team appreciates season-long or ongoing commitment from volunteers (one day per week is great), but can accommodate one-time work parties or individual project requests on a case by case basis.
Oxbow is lucky to be a part of Hopelink Harvest during the growing season. Each week, volunteers gather at Oxbow to collect produce from our fields for donation to area food banks.
A typical glean will collect 75-100 pounds of produce for donation to local Hopelink food banks. This is real, productive, feel-good work! We hope you can join us once or for the season.
Gleans take place every Tuesday, starting July 12, from 1:00-3:00pm. All are welcome and no prior experience is required, but gleaners should come prepared with close-toed shoes, gardening gloves, a water bottle, and layered clothing. Lindsey Robinson will meet gleaners each week at our delivery entrance (10819 Carnation-Duvall Rd. NE).
Summer Camp Volunteers
We have 3-5 volunteer positions available for each week of our summer camps. Volunteers act as instructors’ right-hand farmers in ensuring that each camper has a unique, inspiring educational experience during camp. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with kids in a beautiful (if nontraditional) education setting and to learn from our talented education staff.
Oxbow welcomes corporate and other volunteer groups for work parties! We are flexible and can work with your schedule. Contact us at email@example.com about signing up.
