Get hands-on with Native Plants this summer!

Join us at Oxbow for our 2018 workshops!

We have an exciting Native Plant series to offer, plus other workshops and special tours that are sure to expand your knowledge about gardening, agriculture, and the environment. The Native Plant series kicks off with a native plant identification workshop on Saturday, June 2nd.

June 2nd, 2018 | 10:00AM-12:30PM
Take an interactive walk around Oxbow and learn about natives common to the Snoqualmie Valley and the Pacific Northwest. Dig in and focus on native plant families, key plant characteristics to
look for in the field, and helpful tools to use while you’re out exploring.
Native Plant Workshop #2: Native Seed Collection
July 7th, 2018 | 10:00AM-12:30PM
Perhaps the most fun way to start on your propagation journey is to collect your own seed. Learn how to recognize seed ripeness and collect responsibly as we walk around Oxbow, and learn techniques and tools for collecting in the field. You’ll even take home some seed of
your own!
Native Plant Workshop #3: Seed Cleaning and Storage
August 4th, 2018 | 10:00AM-12:30PM
Before seeds are used or stored, they often need to be “cleaned” of any parts of the fruit or plant still attached. will Learn simple techniques to clean, dry, and store seed so that it will stay viable until you’re are ready to sow it. Class will consist of part lecture/demonstration and part hands-on experience. Students will take home some cleaned seed.
Native Plant Workshop #4: Native Seed Propagation
September 1st, 2018 | 10:00AM-12:30PM
Growing natives from seed can be extremely easy…or extremely challenging! Begin your journey as a native plant propagator at our native plant nursery, where you’ll learn about seed dormancies, easy methods to treat and sow seeds, and resources to use as you learn more. Students will take home their own seed starts.
