Getting a Start on your Garden Starts Workshop

June 2, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Don’t buy plant starts for your garden, learn the art of growing your own seedlings with Oxbow’s Farmers! This hands-on workshop will provide you with the skills, understanding, and resources needed to successfully grow your own starts. Our experts will discuss the theory behind using transplants in your garden and identify the key factors to grow starts successfully. Explore the supplies and tools that Oxbow uses to grow its own organic seedlings and identify ways that a home gardener can bring real farm skills to their own backyard.

Participants will:

  • Understand greenhouse design and get your hands dirty learning how to seed in a greenhouse
  • Look at potting soils, seeding flats, germination chambers, and heating options
  • Learn how to choose seeds, fill flats, seed successfully, and care for seedlings until the point of planting
  • Troubleshoot disease problems, pests, and nutrient deficiencies
  • Leave with the knowledge base to grow starts for your fall garden and redesign your growing spaces

Participants will seed their own flats to take home for their fall gardens, along with handouts and other supplemental information.

This workshop is led by members of Oxbow’s Farm Team.
