Carpentry & Maintenance Assistant


Oxbow is looking for both seasonal and year-round Carpentry & Maintenance assistants. The Carpentry and Maintenance Assistants will split time between supporting farm equipment/ grounds maintenance efforts and building new infrastructure. Time will be spent both directly supervised on technical projects and performing independent maintenance work, such as ground work, building layout, framing, roofing etc. This is a great position for individuals looking to expand their skills and technical knowledge in a wide variety of construction and maintenance subjects including: electrical, carpentry, plumbing, foundation, mechanical, diesel/gas/small engine repair, irrigation, landscaping, etc.



Under the supervision of the Carpentry & Maintenance Lead, the Carpentry & Maintenance Assistant supports all aspects of equipment, property maintenance and infrastructure improvements including:

  • Repair and servicing farm vehicles, tractors and implements
  • Repair and maintenance of buildings and structures
  • Construction of new buildings, signs, smaller structures and irrigation systems
  • Maintaining/improving public spaces and grounds (weed whacking/ mowing, trail building, landscaping)
  • Care for and maintenance of tools



  • Able to lift heavy & awkward objects, up to 60 lbs. as well as perform tasks, such as digging or weed whacking; in inclement weather.
  • Comfortable working on ladders, heights and confined spaces
  • Strong math and writing skills
  • Willingness and capacity to take initiative
  • Ability to take direction, ask for help/clarity when necessary and accept constructive feedback on work and technique
  • Clear, consistent communication
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Strong carpentry skills
  • Tractor driving experience not necessary but a plus
  • Consistent attention to detail
  • Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Flexible, creative, and able to perform well in diverse conditions and under pressure
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings and exhibit safe practices around other workers and farming equipment

This is a regular position, paying $16.50-$18.50 per hour, with competitive benefits including: 100% employer paid healthcare, annual dental stipend, generous holiday, vacation and sick pay, and access to food from the fields.
