The cukes and zukes

An entire acre of your cucumbers and summer squash are growing happily in all this heat.  We sowed them only three weeks ago!  Both of these cucurbit crops are staples that we grow for our CSA members, but there are always more to go around.

When we plan our production each season, we forecast where each bunch and pound of every last crop will be sold, based on talks with our restaurant and grocery customers and feedback from our CSA members.  This year, you’ll be sharing the cucumbers and zucchini with some of our local food economy’s best supporters.

Many of you pick up your OxBox at a participating Pagliacci Pizza location, and in just a few months Pagliacci will be using our mixed zucchini varieties for a beautiful seasonal summer pizza. We’re also growing delicata squash for Pagliacci, and they’ll be using our dino kale for a November pizza for the third year running.  If you haven’t yet, you should check out the neat farm-to-door option Pagliacci is making possible for us–weekly home delivery of your OxBox when you order a pizza!

Alongside one of our favorite collaborators, Seattle Pickle Company, we are growing cucumbers that will become pickles for Homegrown Sustainable Sandwich Shop. Follow this field to plate journey all season long at #HGxOxbow.
