Farmer in the Classroom

Bring a farmer into your classroom! During the season when outdoor field trips aren’t possible, Oxbow’s farm educators bring the farm to you with one of several interactive lessons.

Who

  • Preschool-5th grade
  • Up to 30 students per lesson

When

  • January through March
  • Monday-Friday
  • Approx 60-75 minutes in length (Program length can be adapted, just let us know!)

Cost

  • One lesson: $160
  • Two or more consecutive programs at the same school: $120 each
  • Up to 30 students per lesson

Scholarships: If field trip costs pose a hardship, please contact us at education@oxbow.org for scholarship information. Scholarships are based on schools’ free and reduced lunch rates.

Programs are adapted to each grade level.

Wonder Worms!
What makes healthy soil? We explore soil, learn about worm anatomy, and interact with them in the worm bin. Suggested Grade Levels: Preschool-3rd grade

Seeds and Me
Are seeds only for planting? No! We use seeds every day! We will explore familiar seeds, learn where they come from, and even dissect a seed to discover what’s inside! Suggested Grade Levels: PreK to 5 

The Buzz on Pollination
Animals need plants to survive, but do plants need animals? We explore the magic of pollination through an interactive game and discover the role of pollinators in growing the fruits we know and love. Suggested Grade Levels: 1 to 4

Calling All Birds
What makes beaks unique? Students identify adaptations and conduct experiments to explore how birds gather food and survive in their habitats. Suggested Grade Levels: PreK to 5

Stormwater Management: Imitating Nature to Keep Water Clean
How can dirt make water cleaner? Follow the journey of a raindrop and build a model to demonstrate how water flows through your neighborhood. Suggested Grade Levels: 2 to 5
